Corby was deported after undergoing a term of correctional client at Balai Pemasyarakatan (Bapas) Kelas I Denpasar on Saturday, May 27, 2017. The Corby case began on October 8, 2004, at Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, when 4.2 kg of marijuana found in her bag which she refused to claim. She claimed to be unaware of any marijuana in her bag before it was searched by the customs officers, but her statement was opposed by the customs officers who said that Corby was trying to block them while checking the bag. She was found guilty of charges brought against her and sentenced to 20 years in prison on May 27, 2005. In addition, she was also fined Rp.100 million.
On July 20, 2005, the Denpasar District Court re-opened the case on appeal trial by presenting several new witnesses. Then on October 12, 2005, after the appeal, Corby's sentence was reduced to five years, so 15 years.
