Beijing, Xian Shaanxi, Guangxi, Nanning - Terrorism is our common enemy. We cannot be passive over terrorism. Its threat is a real danger to humanity. No country is free of terrorism threat, and that must be eliminated together with other countries. So does Indonesia which has a commitment and an active role in protecting the country against the threat.
The Workshop on Counter-Terrorism between China and Its Neighboring Countries, held by the invitation of the Foreign Ministry of the People's Republic of China (PRC) on 10-19 July 2017, became one of information-sharing forums on counter-terrorism. As the representative participants were Thailand, Bangladesh, Laos, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippine and Indonesia. The Indonesian delegation was represented by Dwi Rahayu Eka Setyowati (the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights) and Gatot Amrih Jumirin (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
"This Forum is aimed for sharing information and experience among countries in anticipating the danger of terrorism penetrating, besides strengthening the unity among them." stated by Ambassador Liu Guangyuan, the Director General of the Department of External Security Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China during the Welcome Lunch, in Beijing, Monday (10/07/2017).
The established cooperation, meetings held and experience shared to many countries are the potential of Indonesia’s improvement to avert the danger of terrorism. Several agendas and discussions were about:
- Global and Regional Counter Terrorism Situations;
- Challenges of Preventing the Backflow of FTF to Regional Countries and Relevant Measures;
- Enhancing Coordination on Safeguarding the Security for the Projects of the Belt and Road Initiative;
- Suggestions on Improving the Counter Terrorism Cooperation Between Regional Countries.
As the host, the PRC Government also shared their experience of how to prepare and to counter the danger of terrorism by three strategies, namely: personnel and equipment improvement on national security matters, such as education and training for the PRC Police personnel, in securing the country’s territory from terrorist attacks and equipping with modern-technology weapons.
The next is improving its tools and facilities, especially in public zones, such as office buildings, shopping-malls, aircrafts, ships, and any other public spots away from terror threats. And lastly, establishing both internal and external cooperation. Internal cooperation among sectors in the country, by making joint training as National Program in countering terrorism. Whereas the external cooperation, the PRC government sent many delegates to attend meetings, seminars, workshops, and special training regarding anti-terrorism.
On the occasion, the participants had the opportunity to visit National Police Academy as a Training Center of Counter Terrorism, in order to discuss and to share experiences with the officials of Shaanxi Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee, Shaanxi Provincial Anti-Terrorism Office, and the Shaanxi Foreign Affairs Office, then to observe Local Counter Terrorism Center in Shaanxi, as well as to talk over the matter with some officials of Guangxi Public Security Department of China.
