Manado - Located at Four Point Hotel in Manado, North Sulawesi Saturday, July 29, 2017, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Gen. (ret) Wiranto open Sub-Regional meeting regarding Cooperation on Counter Foreign Terrorist Fighter and Cross Border Terrorism. This Sub-Regional Meeting was participated by the states’ representatives, ministers or ministerial-level officials and high officials of neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand.
The countries’ representatives were Second Home Deputy Minister H.E. Dato’ Masir Anak Kujat (Malaysia), Deputy Minister for Security and Media H.E. Dato' Paduka Wanang Haji Hamdan bin Haji Abu Bakar (Brunei Darussalam), H.E. Hermegones C. Esperon (Philippines), Attorney General H.E. George Brandis (Australia) and Foreign Minister H.E. Gerry Brownlee (New Zealand).
This meeting is a response to the recent situation and security threats caused by the Foreign Terrorist Fighter and Cross Border Terrorism actions, and as a follow-up to the International Meeting on Counter-Terrorism and the 2nd Counter-Terrorism Financing Summit on August 2016 in Bali, Indonesia.
In his speech as the host, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Wiranto said that the event would be focused on the situation in the South Philippines and the Southeast Asian countries will not let their territories to be a new base of ISIS. "We must fight ISIS activities together in the southern Philippines, including the cyber aspect, joint maritime patrol also exchanged information and experience of how the terrorist fighters return to their each own countries’ territory, whether by cutting off their logistics or by other measures, it will be discussed", he explained.
Furthermore He asserted, "At present, Indonesia is quite known as a country that able to perform effective measures in the fight against terrorism, not only hard approach by taking bold actions but also soft approach. This meeting is our collective commitment and responsibility to protect our country and neighboring countries from the threat of terrorism, because there is no country unaffected by the threat."
